What is a book birthday?

Authors are sentimental about quite a few things, and that includes the day they launch their new books.
A new book published is as important to an author as a new bride wed, a new baby born, or a new house purchased. It’s a milestone in the life of the author.
Every new book that comes along gets its own birthday, and every year, the author celebrates.
It may be a private affair, or it could be a public one. Either way, the observance is a special one.
After all, think about it… it’s super thrilling to see something that only ever lived in your head and heart taking on tangible form as a book, often one that’s beautiful to look at and substantial to hold.
Cul de Sac Stories’ book birthday is today, July 15

It was on this day in 2024 that Aqueduct Press launched print and digital versions of my first short story collection. Cul de Sac Stories is a quirky, dark speculative compilation of stories with an undeniable feminist throughline.
You’ll find a mashup of current events with weird medieval fantasy… a dreamy-but-scary witch story… a narrative told backward… dystopia written years ago foretelling certain aspects of today’s political climate… magical realism in a seaside town where a doll performs miracles… and more.
Within the same week, I was given space and promotion by the organizers at the Port Townsend Writers Conference to launch my book with a sweet little party. There, I read, offered giveways, and dedicated the book to the community there; after all, I’ve written almost all of those stories while on the Fort Worden campus. I’ve never sold more books in one spot anywhere else before or since then (save my recent trip to StokerCon).
Thank you to everyone who has purchased, read, shared, or helped me promote Cul de Sac Stories, this virtual birthday party tips its glass to you for being part of the journey!
