If you’re in or around Seattle next Sunday June 9, please consider attending this incredible event featuring gifted poet Julene Tripp Weaver in conversation with Seattle icon Priscilla Long at Folio: The Seattle Athenaeum from 4 to 6p. Directions
I’ll be in attendance myself as a admirer of Julene’s extensive body of work as a poet and social justice activist.
Her latest book, Slow Now With Clear Skies, what is being dubbed by readers a “necessary poetry collection.”
Other authors presenting their work include John Burgess, Stephen Jackson, and Clare Johnson, with a reception at the end of the event.
You can preorder your copy from Folio here for quick signing at the event.
I think—and maybe I’m wrong, or maybe I’m on a different timeline, and that’s fine—that people are ready to really process the trauma that the COVID pandemic has wrought (and continues to threaten).
Through her words, Julene acknowledges how we’ve all changed since 2020, how we all live now “on a spectrum/ of health and neuroticism.” It’s no surprise that she wishes to open up conversations with the purpose of healing, as Julene is not only a poet but a psychotherapist and an herbalist.
From the website at Folio, the event host:
“In post-pandemic America, this is the book I needed to read. Weaver… knows we and the earth can heal together. Find channels that soothe. …Send anxiety into the earth. One of these channels is poetry.”
Tickets are “pay what you can” and registration is suggested to RSVP. Sign up now. I hope to see you there!
