Postcard: Chicago River Architectural Tour

Just got back from a week-long vacation in Chicago. Couldn’t have asked for better weather, and I was able to connect with long-time friends and meet some of my write-in buddies in the Chicago Writers Circle face-to-face at a little party overlooking Lincoln Park!

Other fun included eating Rosati‘s deep dish pizza, Garrett‘s popcorn, and Italian beef sandwiches from Portillo‘s; walking the beautiful trails in Warren Township; checking out the Chicago Riverwalk (new to me!); riding Metra into the city; completing a 2,000-piece jigsaw puzzle in 4 days (well, 1,995 pieces); going to see standup comedy in the ‘burbs; and driving past my old stomping grounds and workplaces.

I even enjoyed a little drive down LSD on the North Shore and it hit me hard how much Lake Michigan looks like an ocean, and that brought back memories of sailing over to St. Jo, Michigan on the hottest summer nights.

I also thrilled to take the Chicago River Architecture Tour with my friend John Ivory as docent. Below is a postcard from this memorable event, which brought fond memories of my days back in the last century coming into the city for work and school and play.

I wish I had more time in the city, but that just means I’ll need to make another trip back!
