Cul de Sac Stories questions what we think about life in the suburbs through the perspectives of female characters navigating in a patriarchal world, a space where war, crime, religion, even romance can make seductive promises we might be better off refusing.
This collection of speculative stories dips into the dark, undusted corners of mostly familiar spaces: suburban neighborhoods, beloved local pubs, gas stations at the edge of town, the county fair, front porches, and the upstairs hallways of single family homes.
You’ll find bits of magical realism, the surreal, science fiction, experimental storytelling, fantasy, dystopia, even a couple of nightmares… so buckle up.
I’m so proud to be participating as an author in this respected imprint of Aqueduct Press: Conversation Pieces. Some of my favorite authors started out or had early glimmers in this series. I’m so grateful that the publisher and editor of this series saw fit to include my collection of speculative short stories, each which in its own way questions the safety of places we trust we can inhabit without fear.
