Dance film captures Best Duet, DancentricTV Film Festival 2022

TRIGGER WARNING: Big time mama brag POST IN TRANSIT - Dancentric.tv Film Festival - Dancentric TV

Following her completion of two degrees at the University of Washington (Dance, Education) in 2021, my daughter Megan Sellman spent her summer working in collaboration with some absolutely gifted creatives (dancer Ieva Braciulyte, filmmaker David Comeaux, and musician Trevor Eulau) to create the breathtaking 15:00 short film, POST IN TRANSIT.

Ieva and Megan had applied for and were granted studio space in the Flight Deck residency at Open Flight Studio in Seattle that summer. The project was challenging to complete during the residency period, as intense creative projects often are, and then the revision and production that fall further pushed them into that intense space where making something becomes more than just a thing, but an extension of oneself that has a life of its own.

Of course, we were the lucky parents who attended the initial screening of the film in Seattle in December 2021 (see slideshow below for some highlights). The film explores, as the trailer describes, “a mysterious letter sparks a retelling of time, story, and relationship” enacted in a landscape of paper and fabric. All the props and costumes are a product of their persistence, invention, and thoughtful handiwork. We could not have been more proud of all the artists involved, but of course, we hold a special sparkle for Megz.

Then, because performance artists want for nothing more than for people to experience and encounter their work, the crew submitted their film to a number of independent film festivals to see if they could find an audience.

Last month, Megz texted us to announce that POST IN TRANSIT garnered winner of BEST DUET in the DancentricTV Film Festival 2022!

You can stream the film yourself UNTIL FEBRUARY 27, 2023 by going here and registering. Please watch if you are a fan of dance or creative expression or a patron of the arts in general, especially if you have a desire to encourage young artists to develop their careers. The $1.99 access fee for POST IN TRANSIT benefits the film festival, and if you’re really feeling jazzed and supportive (like me!), you can invest in the arts by purchasing the entire film festival collection for $15.99.

If you watch and like what you see, please leave a review in social media for DancentricTV at Instagram, Facebook, or TikTok.
